John McDonald Hood is president of the John Locke Foundation, a public policy think tank based in Raleigh that examines state and local issues from a free-market, limited government perspective. He serves as editor and publisher of Carolina Journal, the Foundation’s bimonthly magazine, and oversees the research, publications, and administration of the Foundation, which employs twenty-two and has an annual budget exceeding two million dollars. Hood is a graduate of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a native of Charlotte. He currently lives in Garner, North Carolina. In addition to public policy and journalism, his interests include the arts, theater, history, and war gaming.
