The NHPCO Distinguished Researcher Award honors individuals who have made substantial and sustained contributions to the field of hospice and palliative care through research investigation. The 2011 award was presented on October 8, 2011 to Betty Ferrell, RN, Ph.D., MA, FAAN, FPCN.
Ferrell is a Professor and Research Scientist at the City of Hope Medical Center in Los Angeles and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She has been in oncology nursing for 34 years and has focused her clinical expertise and research in pain management, quality of life, and palliative care.
